We took a trip back to my hometown Edgefield, South Carolina to shoot the cover for "Dirt Road Diamond". The boy shown in the photo, Elijah, is a neighborhood friend of my little sister. Naturally, he is everything I represent in my goals and aspirations simply because he's a young black man growing up in rural South Carolina. We took Elijah to the exact same street I grew up on and I was immediately reminded of how it felt growing up there. He was free... He was exploring... He was playing in the grass & mud. Thinking back to how I was the exact same kid in this exact same place & realizing how far I've come, mentally, physically, monetarily, this was the picture that most captured that essence of where I come from. Elijah is a Dirt Road Diamond... just as much as I am. He's the kid I want to see my journey and know that his own "Dirt Road" can lead him to the most amazing dream he could ever imagine.
